St Joseph’s celebrates outstanding GCSE results

Principal, John Jones, commented "It is fantastic to see the delight in so many youngsters' eyes when they see their GCSE results for the first time. Today is a very special day for our school and we are very proud of the achievements of all of our students. The staff at St Joseph's works incredibly hard to ensure that every one of our students has the best possible chances to succeed, so we enjoy days like this when we are able to celebrate their achievements with them.

Mr Jones thanked the many parents who entrust their children's education to St Joseph's and who give such strong support to both pupils and staff - education is truly a collaborative effort.

These are outstanding results which have been achieved by a complete cross-section of young people. St Joseph's is a local coeducational, non-selective school which offers places to all young people living within the area regardless of academic ability. Examination achievement is regarded as an important aspect of the education we provide. We believe that a number of factors have contributed to all this success of which the hard work of the pupils themselves, the support of their parents and the skill and dedication of our teachers are the most significant. In addition however, for several years, we have used a system of target setting and monitoring at GCSE in which pupils are given clear indication very early in their course as to the results we expect. This is based on a subject by subject analysis of their previous performance. At the same time pupils are challenged to exceed these targeted expectations. Many pupils have risen to this challenge magnificently. Within this process, regular monitoring allowed us to give encouragement throughout and to address the issues of those who were in danger of underachieving before it became too late. The work done to track students' performance and to help them identify areas to improve through the courses has clearly paid off.

These excellent results demonstrate the effectiveness of high quality teaching coupled with strong management systems and team work. St Joseph's has achieved a consistently high standard of examination results for several years now, but it is not complacent and will seek to build on this achievement. Just like a family we want every member to do as well as possible and get the very best start in life."

The results are a testament to the incredible hard work of our pupils; the support of parents and the dedication of the school's exceptional staff. Our aim is that every pupil fulfils his or her potential and has the qualifications to move on to the next stage of their education or career. We are extremely proud of all of our young people.

The majority will be staying on to study in St Joseph's sixth form whilst others will continue their education at college or on an apprenticeship. We would like to wish them well as they progress to the next steps in their careers.
