  • Holy Family Primary and Nursery School - Derry receives Investor in People Champion status

Holy Family Primary and Nursery School, Derry is only now beginning to celebrate the notable success of being awarded Investor in People Champion status despite the school being informed of their success last term. Principal, Garry Matthewson, explained the reason for the delay in sharing and celebrating the fantastic news when he stated, "As the school is involved in many initiatives and partnerships to maximise the opportunities available to our pupils and the local community, last term we were engaged in so much that we decided that to properly recognise the magnitude of the award it would be better to wait until the new term to share the news and celebrate."

  • Matt Talbot Nursery School - Laneway Environmental Improvement Project

The laneway running to Matt Talbot Nursery School was an eyesore, plagued by graffiti, vandalism and gathering of youths that lead to antisocial behaviour. Working with the help of Upper Springfield Development Trust and artists Frankie Maher and Ristard O'Muhir, pupils, staff, parents and local secondary schools, including St. Rose's Dominican College and Corpus Christi College, the nursery school transformed it into an attractive and inviting space. The laneway now features a number of murals focusing on culture, including art work that promotes inclusivity and diversity, a mural depicting Belfast street games and a mural on pop music. This is an ongoing project and the school hopes to continue to upgrade and enhance the entrance of the school, regardless of any antisocial behaviour that may continue to occur.
