St Mary’s PS Altinure is among five finalists trying for this major UK-wide business award.
At the rural St Mary’s Primary School in Altinure at the foot of the Sperrins, the judges found that a happy staff equals brighter and more capable students.
The school was highly commended in the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards in best place to work small organisation category.
The judges found that high staff morale and achievements filtered through to driving up education standards and achieving excellent results.
St Mary’s, which opened in 1968, has grown from 144 to 198 today – which is an unusual trend as most school populations are on a downward trend due to decreasing family sizes.
