What is INFOCUS?

Infocus in was launch a new competition which has been designed to showcase the considerable talents and skills of pupils from Catholic Maintained schools.

'In Focus' is a new photographic competition which challenges schools and pupils to capture an emotion or moment in their lives through photography and words.

Photography is an important tool in every area of the curriculum, as a means of recording children's work, either in stages or at its conclusion, or for using when out of school on educational visits or field trips.

CCMS wants to recognise the talents of our schools and their pupils through a competition which has been designed to celebrate Catholic Education in Northern Ireland.  We are grateful to the Irish News who are sponsoring this year’s competition.

The new competition is an integral part of the Council's 'Insight' magazine which has successfully showcased the talents of our schools over the last ten years.  As part of the next edition of Insight, CCMS will be showcasing all winning photographs in the magazine.

CCMS is inviting schools and pupils from all Catholic Maintained schools between 8 and 18 years of age to enter.  To help us in judging and awarding of prizes, we have chosen three age categories. They are:

1.         Key Stage 2

2.         Key Stage 3

3.         Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5

To help guide participants in taking and submitting their photograph, we have suggested 5 themes. The five themes are:

*           Our school in the community

*           What my school means to me

*           A moment in my life

*           My teacher

*           Being different is normal

Pupils and schools will have the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes as part of the competition.  Prizes will be awarded to the winning entry from each Key Stage group.  All participants will receive a certificate in recognition of their entry.

Entries will be judged by a panel which will include the Chief Executive of CCMS, Mr Donal Flanagan, and a representative from the Irish News.

We hope that your school and pupils will take part in the new competition.
