Planning and development

Our Planning and Development team works alongside colleagues from our Education and HR & Finance teams to provide a multi-disciplinary approach.

Planning and Development aims to raise standards by planning effective and sustainable provision through two key functions:

  1. Area Planning - this is a strategic, cross-sectoral approach that aims to ensure all children have access to high quality education in sustainable schools. Area Planning is guided by the Department of Education's 'Sustainable Schools Policy' and guidance on Area Planning and Development Proposals.

  2. Building and Development — Catholic maintained schools are owned by Trustees and the Department of Education is responsible for awarding capital funding. Our role is to support Trustees and schools to advocate for capital investment in a way that is equitable and reflective of need and area planning priorities. We also provide guidance and support to Trustees and schools in relation to capital works and funding. The Education Authority supports the delivery of school maintenance and a range of capital programmes such as Minor Works.
