Investing in the Teaching Workforce Scheme

PLEASE NOTE: Posts advertised with a prefix of ITW on 11th October 2018 with a closing date of 24th October 2018 are advertised under the terms of The Investing in the Teaching Workforce Scheme.

About the Scheme

The Investing in the Teaching Workforce Scheme (hereafter referred to as 'the Scheme is operating in the 2018/19 financial year.

The policy aims of the Scheme are to refresh and re-profile the teaching workforce by enabling the release of teachers in permanent posts aged 55 years and over on 30 April 2018, from the teaching profession and to replace the vacant posts with Recently Qualified Teachers who are not in permanent teaching employment at the date of application, who have qualified to teach in 2013, up to and including those who have qualified during 2017  (that is 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) and are registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) to teach by the date of taking up post.

The Department of Education and the employing authorities believe that there is objective justification for the restriction of eligibility for replacement posts to be Recently Qualified Teachers as described above.  A High Court judgement in 2017 confirmed the legality of this approach.

Therefore, all applicants for the posts prefixed with 'ITW' in each Diocese must be Recently Qualified Teachers who are not in permanent teaching employment, who have qualified to teach in 2013, up to and including those who have qualified during 2017  (that is 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) and are registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) to teach by the date of taking up post.

  2. All applicants must be committed to the religious and pastoral development of a Catholic school.
  3. On taking up post you must be registered with GTCNI.
  4. It should be noted that the criteria for any post advertised may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting.
  5. Late applications will not be accepted.
  6. Only official CCMS application forms will be accepted.

Enhanced Disclosure check - information for applicants

Posts involving working with children and young people in educational establishments are subject to the provisions of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007.

Applicants must disclose if there is any reason why they cannot work in regulated activity (as defined by AccessNI).  For further information on regulated activity please refer to the AccessNI website www.nidirect.gov.uk/accessni.

Please note that as part of the CCMS recruitment process the successful candidate will require an enhanced disclosure check which at present costs £33 and is met by the candidate.  Further details regarding payment of this will be issued with any initial offer of employment.  Please be aware that any offer of employment is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check.
