Lismore pupils reach UK finals in Young Enterprise Programme

Congratulations to the students from Lismore Comprehensive School, Craigavon. The school’s ‘Easy Lace’ team were awarded the Best Overall Company for Northern Ireland in the Young Enterprise Company Awards 2017. They are through to the UK final in London in July. The students created their innovative Easy Lace product which is designed to help children, athletes or anyone who struggles with the physicality of tying laces.

Young Enterprise reported;

‘Some of the best products are those that solve real life problems. After students heard a story of one of their teacher’s children getting their laces stuck in an elevator, they began to look for a way to solve the problem.

 ‘Easy Lace’ began to develop and market a device to help keep laces tied and is aimed at young people who find it difficult to tie their laces. The magnetic device essentially once is fitted will mean that you will never have to tie your laces again and transforms a lace shoe into a slip-on shoe.

Students from ‘Easy Lace’ visited a range of businesses and schools to promote and help develop their business further. Students have been to Debenhams where they had a sales pitch and their product is currently off to Head office Debenhams where it is undergoing quality checks before being stocked. Students also went to Donard Special School, Banbridge and presented to parents at an independent living talk organised by an Occupational Therapist. The parents and other health professionals were very impressed and many sales were made. The students have also visited several local schools and a nursing home, promoting and selling their product.

Following customer reviews the medium sized Pharmacy chain, Northern Pharmacies Ltd decided to stock ‘Easy Lace’ in their shops in Poyntzpass, Cullyhanna, Holywood and Greyabbey. The students were delighted when Roy Carrol (Northern Ireland and Linfield goalkeeper) endorsed the product.’

One of the students created and directed a video advert. An advert which illustrates how the product works was developed by one of the team and can be viewed on their social media pages.
